1. Bad pit strategy by the no. 88 team.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was caught out before pitting when a lap 65 caution moving him back from the lead to 32nd
position after some questionable strategy by the team.
Earnhardt Jr. benefited from the lap 83 wreck climbing to 22nd by making it through the accident unscathed. He
lost two positions in the points and now sits 4th.
When asked after the caution came out, Tony Eury, Jr. replied that it was bad luck and that he had just thrown the
race away because of the strategy.
2. Strategy that turned out to be no real strategy at all.
There were no cars running in the top 20 that were trying to stretch a fuel run. Everyone had pitted well within their
window with a few cautions.
3. Ryan Newman trying to scratch his way into the top 12 in points.
After spinning on lap 78 basically eliminating any chance for the Daytona 500 winner to make the Chase. Then he
goes on having issues keeping the car running after the incident and ends up finishing 26th and remains 15th in
points.
3. Lap 82 accident.
The big wreck coming out of turn 11 at the entrance to pit road bringing out the red flag and taking out 9 cars. The
race was delayed for over 40 minutes while the track was cleaned up and safety barrels replaced. Everyone
involved in the wreck was released from the infield care center with the exception of Bobby Labonte who was
taken to an area hospital for further observation.
4. Single file racing in the closing laps.
The race was pretty much a one-wide conga line to the finish after the red flag break. Strategy had sealed most of
the teams fate and finishing position and the red flag merely prolonged the inevitable.
Road course racing receives equal amounts of praise and criticism and this event may draw more of the latter this
week on the call in shows and web forums.
5. Kyle Busch Winning... Again.
Even though this may not be a legitimate choice for 'The Worst' category, there are enough non-Kyle fans that if
this isn’t included we will get 5,000 emails saying that it should have. All we can say is vote away and prove this
one wrong or right.

The Top 5 Best and Worst at Watkins Glen
By: Gregg A. Shultz, RaceFanVote.com
The Best & Worst may not always be what you think and the same topic can make it on both sides depending on the
circumstances and the outcome.
We ran this format a few times during the season and had enough requests to do it again that we decided to make
it a regular feature here every Monday.
Read and vote on your #1 best and worst and the top answers will be posted on the following Monday. You can also
view the current results from each poll by clicking the link below the "submit" button.

1. Kyle Busch making it 8 wins for the year and sweep on the road courses in Cup.
There was some concern early in the run that Busch may be a lap short on fuel, but was able to solidify his position
with the help of multiple caution laps to save fuel. Of course, due to the fact that it is Kyle Busch we have to put this
in the worst column as well for the non-fans.
2. Marcos Ambrose bringing it home in 3rd for Woods Bros. Racing.
Ambrose followed up his first NASCAR victory Saturday at Watkins Glen in the Nationwide series by racing from
43rd position to finish a solid 3rd in the Cup race.
Marcos adds this to a 22nd place finish at Indianapolis, yet a dismal 42nd place finish at Sonoma due to a
transmission failure. The finish at Watkins Glen for Ambrose is a season high position for the Woods Bros. with
the next highest finishing position being 20th at Pocono with Bill Elliott at the wheel.
3. Max Papis having a great attitude after his misfortune getting caught up in the big accident on lap 82.
After being released from the infield care center, Papis immediately began signing autographs for a group of
children, showing them nothing but smiles.
4. Matt Kenseth is in the top 12 after a 12th place finish at Watkins Glen.
Matt’s move in the points is more credited to how Clint Bowyer finished the race in a mediocre 23rd and is now
13th in points. The two swapped positions from prior to the race.
5. Warning…. <<<Writer’s Bias>>>
The final “Best” is that we are finished with the road course races for the season with Michigan and Bristol (night)
next two on the schedule followed by two more night races at Fontana and Richmond. The famous words in
regards to the road course races are that “I wouldn’t want a steady diet of this [road course racing]” and the diet is
full. Time to move on.
