Why Is Jeff Gordon Worried About Carl Edwards / Roush
                   By: Gregg A. Shultz RaceFanVote.com

You have probably heard the reports of Jeff Gordon wanting NASCAR to take a closer look
at Roush’s sideways tracking cars and questionable adjustments with the rear axle housings
in speculation that “they’re going too far with it” after boasting that Hendrick was the first
to come up with the idea.

If Jeff Gordon hasn’t figured out why a lot of the fans call him a ‘whiner’ then he should take
this situation as an example of such.

As commentary writers know, opinions are like… well, opinions and basically it’s not Jeff
Gordon’s job to voice opinions of what he thinks about what the other teams are doing. If
you are having a bad season it is not always the case that you are doing the same as before
and everyone else is just better, sometimes you are just having a bad season.

Complaining about another team having an advantage that you [the team] has self-
admittedly experimented with and said for record that it was “no advantage” & “makes the
cars drive so terrible” then why point it out to NASCAR as being a potentially unfair
advantage? Is it unfair because the other teams can't make the same modifications or
because the other drivers can’t drive a car set up that way? Did I already use the word
‘whiner’?

I am sure that Gordon is frustrated with his season thus far, but does he honestly think
that the governing body is going to step in and slap a custom-made rule on certain teams
just because he’s getting outrun?

As John Darby, the Series director said “ the teams complain when we've got too many rules
and then they want us to create more." and added that there was a rule already
implemented restricting more than a quarter-inch change plus or minus in the rear axle
housing.

Jeff Gordon is an awesome stock car driver who has accomplished more in his career than
most others can ever only dream of. The only issue with Jeff being the ‘cheating police’ in
the garage area and in the court of public opinion is who he drives for. I doubt that even
NASCAR would take any Hendrick driver serious for accusing another team of crossing the
line when it comes to unapproved modifications. It’s to coin an old phrase the pot calling the
kettle black.

Jeff Gordon is more than likely riding the normal ebb and flow that is famous in the sport
and after the great year that he had in 2007 it seems like he’s just being a sore loser in
2008. A lot of times when drivers call out other drivers or teams in the garage it’s because
they have fallen behind a little coupled with some bad decisions and/or luck on the track.
The first thing they want to do is to blame the other teams of having an unfair advantage.
There are way too many variables in the sport to try to simply pinpoint one effort by a
particular team and claim that’s the disparity.

Carl Edwards had a very Carl-esque way of stating that Gordon/Hendrick should be more
concerned with what they are doing and stop worrying about the no. 99 team.

Jeff Gordon was voted the sports second most popular driver in 2007 because he drove
hard, won races and has earned respect from the garage and the fans. Why ruin that to be
the new NASCAR ‘tattle-tale’ and whine because you think that some other teams are being
‘unfair’?

NASCAR has rules, a strict inspection process and personnel that know what they are
doing. The last time I checked Gordon’s uniform said DuPont, not “official”.

I am actually a Jeff Gordon fan and I hate
it when he starts this kind of stuff up.
He does whine a LOT!

Jeff Gordon has done this all through his
career. When he runs well he's fine and
when he doesn't he starts complaining. I
think NASCAR has learned to take his
comments with a grain of salt.

I remember a couple of times last year
that Casey Mears passed Jeff clean and
he came on the radio saying "okay, if
that's how he wants to race me going for
the championship that's fine". Jeff wants
the competition to lay down for him
especially teammates. He already started
the same thing this year with Dale Jr. I'm
tired of him.

Jeff policing the other drivers is like letting
the fox watch the hen house.

Lay off of Jeff! This article is the thing that
is causing trouble.
How many times have Jeff and Hendrick
Motor Sports been penalized? Jeff is not
the one doing those things to his car.
Fair,is fair, anytime he voices his opinion
he is called a whiner. Yet, many drivers
complain about cars or other drivers.
I don't think Jeff wants his teammates to
lay down for him. Just a little drafting help
would be nice. He has helped every
member of his team by giving them
knowledge and the benefits from his
experience.
Especially the ungrateful Jimmy Johnson.

He admitted that his team tried the same
trick, couldn't make it work and now he is
complaining about other teams using it?
What legitimate reason does he have for
complaining then?
